CHANGE BY US.
A student-led organization committed to the dismantling of systemic racism through the diversification of school curricula.
OUR STORY & MISSION.
Overcome Together is an 100% student-led organization committed to the dismantling of systemic racism through the diversification of school curricula. Our story began with four friends, a petition, and a demonstration. Following the heartbreaking murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd, we petitioned our local school administrators to include and celebrate Black history. After our petition secured over 4,500 signatures, we decided to hold our first public "Talk in the Park" event to rally behind our cause and push our local educational, political, and religious leaders in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania to work on making change. Seeing our small town pull together to support our cause was truly inspiring. We were no longer a couple of kids with a mic -- we were now part of a multi-racial movement united in assembly, speech, and action to overcome racism and realize a common dream together.
GET INVOLVED.
Change doesn't happen alone.
JOIN.
Join us. When we hold hands, there are few barriers we can't break through. Whether organizing school or community gatherings with us, participating in Overcome Together meetings with us, or brainstorming ideas with us on how to make change a reality in our communities, you can play a critical role in ushering in local change. Together we can overcome.
ATTEND.
Attend local government and school board meetings. Bring friends and voice your concerns during public comment portions of these meetings. Ask and challenge your elected officials on what they are doing to help diversify school curricula. Most importantly, hold your leaders accountable face-to-face for their action (or inaction) on issues important to us.
ORGANIZE.
If your local government and school board leaders don't initially listen, don't be discouraged. Instead, rally your community to apply pressure to your leaders via public rallies, protests, and demonstrations. Stay peaceful, stay on message, and don't be afraid to speak your mind.
VOTE.
Simply put, voting is one of the simplist and greatest tools available to make an impact locally. But first you need to make sure you are registered to vote. If you're over 18, get registered and make sure you get out to the polls to vote your conscious. If you need to register to vote, please click here.
